VISIT: Choquequirao 4 Days Trek

We’ll begin our Choquequirao adventure at 6:30 a.m., picking you up from your hotel in Cusco or from Plazoleta Regocijo in a comfortable van. From there, we’ll head toward the charming village of San Pedro de Cachora, and continue for about 4 hours until reaching Capuliyoc, the official starting point of our trek.

At Capuliyoc, we’ll take a break to enjoy lunch while admiring the breathtaking views of the Apurímac Canyon and the snow-capped Padreyoc mountain. From this viewpoint, you’ll also get your first distant glimpse of the Choquequirao ruins, our ultimate destination, and marvel at the vast canyon that we’ll soon explore.

After lunch, we’ll start our descent into the canyon, hiking for about 3.5 hours over a distance of roughly 7 km. Along the way, we’ll stop at Cocamasana viewpoints, where you can soak in panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape.

We’ll arrive at Chikiska, a small and welcoming village, where we’ll stay in a local rural lodge. Here, you can relax and enjoy a traditional dinner, before spending the night in comfortable twin or double rooms, resting up for the next day’s adventure.

After an early breakfast at the campsite, we’ll begin our second day of adventure. We’ll start by descending for about 1 hour until we reach the banks of the Apurímac River, at a spot known as Playa Rosalina.

Here, we’ll cross the river and begin our ascent toward Santa Rosa, a climb that takes around 2 hours. This section is quite challenging, as we’ll be hiking uphill while the morning shade still lingers — but the views and the experience make every step worthwhile!

Once in Santa Rosa, we’ll take a short break before continuing the ascent for another 2 hours until we reach Marampata, where a delicious lunch will be waiting for us. Afterward, we’ll have the afternoon free to rest — we’ll have climbed over 1,500 meters in elevation, quite an achievement!

In the afternoon, you’ll have the chance to explore the area, learn about local agriculture, and get a glimpse into the Quechua way of life. In the evening, we’ll enjoy a hearty dinner and spend the night in comfortable cabins at 2,970 meters above sea level, preparing for the next day’s adventure.

VISIT: Choquequirao 4 Days Trek

The day to explore the legendary “City in the Sky” — Choquequirao — has arrived! After an early and hearty breakfast, we’ll set out toward this impressive Inca citadel.

The hike to Choquequirao takes about 1.5 hours (4.5 km), leading us through stunning natural scenery to reach one of the most fascinating archaeological sites in Peru.

We’ll spend the entire day exploring the different sectors of Choquequirao, including the Llama Terraces, the main plaza (3,068 m), and the Hanan sector (3,136 m). You’ll also get to see areas still covered by vegetation, which have yet to be excavated — adding an air of mystery and discovery to our visit.

During the tour, we’ll enjoy a picnic-style lunch with a breathtaking 360º view, where history, culture, and nature blend perfectly.

After uncovering the secrets of Choquequirao, we’ll begin our return journey along a rocky and challenging trail that leads back to Marampata, offering stunning panoramic mountain views along the way.

From Marampata, we’ll descend along a steep and rocky path toward Santa Rosa (12 km). If time and group energy allow, we’ll continue further to Chikiska (17 km), where the lush vegetation and serene atmosphere will reward our effort.

At the end of this full day of exploration, we’ll enjoy a delicious dinner and rest in cozy cabins with double beds, surrounded by the tranquility of the mountains.

On this final day, we’ll enjoy a delicious breakfast before continuing our descent to the Apurímac River along a winding and rocky trail.

We’ll take a short rest by the river, admiring its power and beauty, before starting our ascent back up the trail, passing once again through Chiquisca and Cocamasana, two small villages offering shade and refreshing drinks to recharge under the warm sun as we make our way toward Capuliyoc.

Along the way, we’ll appreciate the changing landscapes and forested slopes, accompanied by the majestic mountains that have been our constant companions throughout the journey. As we approach the Capuliyoc viewpoint, we’ll be rewarded with a panoramic perspective of the entire route we’ve conquered over the past four days — a memory that will stay with us forever, filled with emotion, satisfaction, and the well-earned fatigue of true adventure.

At Capuliyoc, we’ll enjoy a well-deserved lunch while resting and taking in the breathtaking views of the Apurímac Canyon.

Finally, we’ll take our private transport back to Cusco (approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes), marking the end of an unforgettable experience in the heart of the Andes.
