VISIT: Colca Canyon Full Day
We begin our Colca Canyon tour at 3:15 a.m., picking you up from your hotel in the city center of Arequipa.
We’ll head towards Chivay, the main town in the Colca Valley, on a journey of approximately 3 hours.
Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy a traditional Andean breakfast, then continue for about an hour to reach the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint, the most famous spot to witness the breathtaking flight of the Andean condor and admire the canyon’s immense depth. We’ll spend around 45 minutes here.
On our way back, we’ll stop at several viewpoints to appreciate the ancient pre-Inca terraces and visit the picturesque town of Maca, where you can explore its colonial church and taste local drinks such as the famous Colca Sour.
Before lunch, we’ll visit the hot springs of Yanque (optional entrance) to enjoy a relaxing soak in its thermal pools, with temperatures ranging from 35°C to 38°C.
Around 12:30 p.m., we’ll have lunch in Chivay at a local tourist restaurant.
Afterward, we’ll begin our return journey to Arequipa, making scenic stops along the way:
- Mirador de los Volcanes (4,800 m a.s.l.), the highest point of the route, offering a panoramic view of the western Andes range.
- Toccra Wetlands, a natural habitat for alpacas and high-Andean birds.
- Finally, we’ll pass by the Chachani volcano and through the Pampa Cañahuas National Reserve, home to graceful wild vicuñas.
The tour concludes around 5:30 p.m. with drop-off near the Plaza de Armas of Arequipa.
