VISIT: Pastoruri Tour Full Day
We begin our adventure to the Pastoruri Glacier at 8:00 A.M., picking you up directly from your hotel in Huaraz (3,100 m / 10,170 ft) in a private tourist vehicle.
Before setting out, we’ll enjoy a hearty breakfast to start the day full of energy.
We’ll head south through the Callejón de Huaylas, passing by traditional Andean villages until reaching the town of Cátac (3,566 m / 11,700 ft). From there, we’ll take an eastern detour into the Pachacoto Valley, which leads us to the majestic Nevado Pastoruri.
Along the route, we’ll make several scenic and cultural stops, including:
- Patococha Lagoon: habitat of Andean wild ducks.
- Pumapampa Carbonated Spring: also known as the “Fountain of Youth.”
- Pumapashimin Lagoon (Lagoon of Seven Colors): a small lagoon with unique optical color effects.
- Puya Raimondi Forest: home to the world’s tallest bromeliad, which can grow up to 12 meters high and live for over 100 years.
- Ancient Rock Paintings: remnants of ancestral Andean art.
Finally, we’ll reach the starting point of the hike to the glacier. The trek is of low difficulty, taking approximately 1 hour to reach the glacier at 5,000 m / 16,400 ft. For those who prefer not to walk, horses are available for rent.
Once at the glacier, you’ll have time to enjoy the breathtaking scenery, take photos, and rest. We’ll then have a box lunch before starting our return hike along the same path back to the starting point, where our transport will be waiting to take us back to Huaraz.
