VISIT: Rocotuyoc glacier Full Day
We begin our adventure to the Rocotuyoc Lagoon at 7:00 A.M., picking you up from your hotel in Huaraz (3,100 m / 10,170 ft) in a private tourist vehicle.
Before starting the journey, we’ll enjoy a delicious breakfast to fuel up for the day.
We’ll head north through the Callejón de Huaylas until reaching the town of Marcará, and then continue to Vicos, a traditional Andean community rich in culture and heritage. From there, we’ll enter the Honda Valley, where we’ll stop at the entrance of Huascarán National Park to pay the admission fee.
The route then continues along a steep dirt road until reaching the end of the Paccharuri Valley, home to the stunning Rocotuyoc Lagoon (4,700 m / 15,420 ft). The total drive from Huaraz to the lagoon takes about 3 hours.
Once in this natural setting, we’ll take a scenic hike around Rocotuyoc Lagoon, reaching a nearby frozen lagoon. Here, we’ll stop to rest, take photos, and enjoy a box lunch while surrounded by spectacular Andean landscapes.
On our way back, just 10 minutes from the lagoons, we’ll make a special stop at the Llamaruri rock paintings. A short 5-minute walk from the road leads to a small cave containing these ancient pre-Inca artworks (dating from 600 to 1,000 A.D.) — a fascinating window into the cultural past of the Andes.
Finally, we’ll begin our return to Huaraz, making a brief stop in Marcará before continuing back to the city.
