VISIT: Waqrapukara Hike Full Day from Cusco
Embark on an epic full-day adventure to Waqrapukara, an ancient Inca fortress and ceremonial site perched dramatically at 4,300 meters (14,100 ft) above sea level. Known as the “Horn Fortress” for its distinctive twin peaks, Waqrapukara offers breathtaking views of the Apurimac Canyon, mysterious ruins, and a deep sense of connection with the Inca past.

Itinerary
4:30 A.M. – Hotel Pickup in Cusco
We’ll start early by picking you up from your hotel in Cusco in our private tourist van. The drive lasts about 2 hours, crossing through breathtaking Andean valleys and small traditional villages until we reach Cusipata, located in the Acomayo Province.
6:30 A.M. – Traditional Breakfast in Cusipata
Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy a delicious traditional Andean breakfast, then continue for a short drive to Santa Lucía, the starting point of our trek. On the way, we’ll pass by the stunning Pomacanchi Lagoon, one of the four famous lagoons of Acomayo.
8:00 A.M. – Hike to Waqrapukara
From Santa Lucía, we begin our 1-hour hike along a scenic trail surrounded by vast highland landscapes. As we ascend, the view opens up to reveal Waqrapukara, a remarkable archaeological site located on top of a rocky promontory.
9:00 A.M. – Explore the Fortress of Waqrapukara
Together with your professional guide, you’ll explore the Inca ruins, ceremonial altars, terraces, and the iconic double-horned rock formation that gives the site its name. Learn about the site’s dual role as both fortress and temple, and take spectacular panoramic photos of the Apurimac Canyon below.
11:00 A.M. – Return Hike and Lunch in Cusipata
After exploring, we’ll hike back to the starting point near Santa Lucía, where our private transport will be waiting. We’ll then head back to Cusipata to enjoy a well-deserved lunch featuring local flavors.
1:30 P.M. – Return to Cusco
After lunch, we’ll drive back to Cusco, arriving at your hotel around 5:30 P.M., completing an unforgettable Andean adventure.
