VISIT: Sun Road Cusco to Puno
We begin our Route of the Sun Tour at 6:30 a.m., picking you up from your hotel in the city of Cusco in a comfortable van. Throughout the day, we’ll visit several historical, cultural, and natural landmarks, arriving in Puno in the afternoon.
TOUR STOPS:
Andahuaylillas – The Andean Sistine Chapel (25 min)
Our first stop is this baroque masterpiece, built in the 17th century. Known as the “Sistine Chapel of the Andes,” it features stunning murals, gold-leaf altars, and paintings from the Cusco School of Art.
Raqchi Temple – God Wiracocha (40 min)
We’ll visit this vast archaeological complex dedicated to the god Wiracocha, featuring Inca storehouses (colcas), large walls, and structures built with both stone and adobe.
Buffet Lunch – La Pascana Restaurant (40 min)
Enjoy a delicious buffet lunch with a variety of national and regional dishes, desserts, and hot beverages at a charming tourist restaurant en route.
La Raya Pass – Natural Viewpoint (7–10 min)
At 4,338 meters above sea level, this is the natural border between Cusco and Puno. From here, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Chimboya snow-capped mountain and the Andean landscape — perfect for photos.
Pucará Lithic Museum (30 min)
Our final stop is the Pucará Museum, home to sculptures and ceramics from the Pucará culture (1600 B.C. – 400 A.D.). Among its most notable pieces is the Hatunñaqac, or “The Great Decapitator.”
START: 6:30 a.m. – Pick-up from your hotel in Cusco.
END: Approximately 5:30 p.m. – Arrival in Puno, at a private terminal near the city center.
