VISIT: Sun Road from Puno to Cusco
We begin our Route of the Sun tour by picking you up from your hotel in Puno at 6:30 A.M., then transferring you to the terminal to board the tourist bus. The departure is scheduled for 7:00 A.M., starting a 10-hour scenic journey to the city of Cusco. Around 7:30 A.M., we’ll bid farewell to the highlands with one last view of the majestic Lake Titicaca.
After about two hours, we’ll reach the town of Pucará, famous for its handmade “Toritos de Pucará” — colorful ceramic bulls that symbolize protection and prosperity in Andean homes. Our guide will explain their cultural meaning and local legend.
Two more hours later, we’ll arrive at La Raya, the natural border between Puno and Cusco. This is the perfect spot to enjoy panoramic photographs of the surrounding mountains and landscapes. Afterwards, we’ll enjoy an included buffet lunch.
In the afternoon, we’ll enter the Cusco region to visit the Temple of Viracocha in Raqchi, considered one of the largest and most important Inca temples due to the monumental scale of its walls and structures. Our guide will share the fascinating history and significance of this archaeological site.
Our final stop will be at the Church of Andahuaylillas, known as the Sistine Chapel of the Andes for its dazzling murals, colonial paintings, and masterpieces from the Cusqueña art school.
Finally, around 5:00 P.M., we’ll arrive in the city of Cusco, where our team will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel.
