Yes. The Puno – La Paz – Uyuni bus itinerary leaves several hours between the arrival in La Paz and the night departure to Uyuni, so it is possible to have lunch, walk through central areas or rest before continuing the journey.
It is advisable to choose simple activities and remain relatively close to the point from where the next bus will depart.

What places can you visit on a Peru and Bolivia 9 days tour?
A Peru and Bolivia 9 days tour allows you to combine some of the main destinations in the Andes in a single route, including Cusco, Machu Picchu, Humantay Lake, Rainbow Mountain, Lake Titicaca and the Uyuni Salt Flats. The itinerary requires precise planning because it combines excursions, overland journeys and connections between two countries, so the order of the visits is just as important as the places included.
💡 Get In Peru Expert Tip: Do not add additional excursions only because they seem close on the map. On this route, each transfer should leave enough time for meals, rest, luggage and possible variations on the road.
📍 Did you know? Machu Picchu is located at a lower altitude than the city of Cusco, while Lake Titicaca and Uyuni are part of much higher areas of the Andean altiplano.
Is a Peru and Bolivia 9 days trip enough to visit both countries?
Yes, a Peru and Bolivia 9 days trip is enough to visit a selection of the most representative destinations in both countries, as long as the itinerary is concentrated on the tourist corridor of southern Peru and the Bolivian altiplano. It does not allow you to see Peru and Bolivia completely, but it does allow you to combine archaeology, mountains, Andean culture, Lake Titicaca and the Uyuni Salt Flats without extending the trip for several weeks.
💡 Get In Peru Expert Tip: For nine days, avoid adding destinations far from the Cusco–Puno–Bolivia route. Each detour can take up practically a full day between transfers, waiting times and connections.
📍 Did you know? Southern Peru and western Bolivia share the same geographical environment of the altiplano, which makes it easier to build a continuous overland route between both countries.
Is the Peru and Bolivia 9 days tour difficult because of the altitude?
The Peru and Bolivia 9 days tour can be demanding for travelers who are not used to the altitude, mainly because of the mountain excursions and the nights in altiplano cities. The difficulty does not depend only on walking a lot, but also on how each person responds to staying several days above 3,000 meters. That is why it is important to begin the journey progressively and avoid intense efforts during the first hours at high altitude.
💡 Get In Peru Expert Tip: On the day you arrive in Cusco, avoid scheduling Humantay or Rainbow Mountain immediately. Even travelers in good physical condition can feel the altitude if they do a demanding hike too soon.
📍 Did you know? Cusco is located at approximately 3,400 meters and Lake Titicaca exceeds 3,800 meters in altitude, so the trip continues for several days within high-mountain environments.
What is the best time to do Peru and Bolivia 9 days?
The best time to do Peru and Bolivia 9 days depends on the experience you are looking for. The drier months usually offer more stable conditions for hikes and clearer landscapes in the Andes, while during the rainy season the Uyuni Salt Flats may have areas covered with water that produce the well-known mirror effect. The weather can vary considerably between Cusco, the mountains, Puno and Uyuni.
💡 Get In Peru Expert Tip: If your priority is to see the mirror effect in Uyuni, do not organize the entire trip only around a photograph. The presence and depth of the water depend on the rains and some routes within the salt flats may change.
📍 Did you know? In Uyuni, the dry season and the rainy season produce very different landscapes, so visiting the same place in different months can offer completely different experiences.
What documents do I need for a Peru and Bolivia 9 days trip?
To take a Peru and Bolivia 9 days trip, you need to carry the valid travel document required to enter both countries and check in advance the immigration requirements corresponding to your nationality. Because the itinerary crosses an international border, the requirements may vary between travelers. It is also advisable to keep reservations, accommodation information and any document that may be requested during immigration controls at hand.
💡 Get In Peru Expert Tip: During the border crossing, do not place your passport or main documentation inside the luggage that will travel in the bus compartment. Keep them with you until all exit and entry controls are completed.
📍 Did you know? Crossing from Peru to Bolivia by land involves completing immigration procedures to exit one country and enter the other, even when both controls are located relatively close to each
What clothes should I bring for Peru and Bolivia 9 days?
For Peru and Bolivia 9 days, it is advisable to bring layered clothing, a warm jacket, windbreaker or light rain jacket, comfortable pants, footwear with good grip, a cap, sunglasses and sun protection. During the journey you may encounter cold mornings, intense solar radiation, wind and rapid temperature changes, especially on high-altitude excursions and during the trip across the altiplano toward Bolivia.
💡 Get In Peru Expert Tip: Keep a thermal garment accessible in your daypack and not inside your main suitcase. On very early departures such as Humantay, Rainbow Mountain or Uyuni, you may need it before starting the excursion.
📍 Did you know? In high areas of the Andes, it can feel quite warm under the sun during the day and much colder just a few hours later, especially when the solar radiation disappears.
What luggage is recommended for a Peru and Bolivia 9 days tour?
For a Peru and Bolivia 9 days tour, it is preferable to travel with practical luggage and a small backpack for daily excursions. The journey combines different forms of transportation and changes of accommodation, so an excessively large suitcase can be uncomfortable. In your daypack, it is advisable to carry water, sunscreen, documents, personal medication, a portable battery, a light jacket and the items you will need during the visits.
💡 Get In Peru Expert Tip: Before leaving for Machu Picchu, separate in advance what you will need for that day. Train services and transfers work better when you do not try to carry all your travel luggage with you.
📍 Did you know? On a multi-destination circuit, it is common to use several types of transportation in just a few days, from tourist vehicles and trains to interprovincial buses and vehicles adapted for the Uyuni routes.
How far in advance do I need to book Peru and Bolivia 9 days?
It is recommended to book Peru and Bolivia 9 days several weeks in advance, especially if you have fixed dates, travel during high season or want specific times for Machu Picchu. Some services have more limited availability than others and a single modification can affect trains, entrance tickets, buses or subsequent accommodations. For this reason, it is advisable to secure the services with limited availability first and then organize the more flexible components of the itinerary.
💡 Get In Peru Expert Tip: Confirm Machu Picchu first before purchasing independent connections around the itinerary. Changing the date of this visit later may require reorganizing several days of the journey.
📍 Did you know? Access to Machu Picchu is organized through circuits and entry times, so two travelers visiting the citadel on the same day may have different routes depending on their ticket.
Do I need to be in good physical condition to do Peru and Bolivia 9 days?
You do not need to be an athlete to do Peru and Bolivia 9 days, but it is advisable to have a normal level of physical fitness and be prepared to walk at high altitude. The most demanding days are usually the mountain excursions, while other visits mainly require vehicle transfers and moderate walks. The perception of effort can also increase due to the altitude, even for travelers who are used to walking regularly.
💡 Get In Peru Expert Tip: Walk at your own pace in Humantay and Rainbow Mountain. Trying to keep up with already acclimatized travelers during the first few minutes often causes unnecessary fatigue before reaching the most demanding sections.
📍 Did you know? Physical fitness and adaptation to altitude are different factors: a person trained at sea level may also need time to acclimatize when arriving in the Andes.
What should I consider before booking Peru and Bolivia 9 days?
Before booking Peru and Bolivia 9 days, review the order of the itinerary, transportation schedules, Machu Picchu entrance tickets, high-altitude excursions, the border crossing and which services are included each day. It is also advisable to check whether there are overnight journeys or very early departures. On a two-country route, good logistical coordination is more important than trying to include the greatest possible number of attractions.
💡 Get In Peru Expert Tip: Pay special attention to where one excursion ends and where the next transfer begins. On tight itineraries, an apparently simple connection may require collecting luggage, changing terminals or traveling to another boarding point.
📍 Did you know? The nine days combine very different environments, from the mountainous surroundings of Machu Picchu to the Titicaca altiplano and the extensive salt plains of Uyuni.
