Travel Expert Recommendations
What clothing should I bring for the Tambopata 4 Day 3 Night Tour?
Bring lightweight, breathable, quick drying clothing for the daytime, but also pack long pants and long sleeved shirts for jungle hikes.
It is also advisable to bring a lightweight waterproof jacket, especially in case of sudden weather changes.
Is it advisable to wear regular sneakers for hiking in Tambopata?
They are not the best option. In the jungle, you may encounter wet trails, mud, and slippery surfaces, so it is preferable to wear closed-toe footwear with good grip.
Bringing extra socks is also practical in case your footwear gets wet during an excursion.

You will also visit:
The artificial turtle beaches, where nests are protected until the hatchlings are released, especially from July to November.

After enjoying nature and an unforgettable sunset, we will walk back to the lodge, approximately 2 hours.

Travel Expert Recommendations
Is it worth bringing binoculars on the Tambopata 4 Day 3 Night Tour?
Yes. Although they are not essential, binoculars can greatly improve the experience during the hikes and from the observation tower, especially for spotting birds and other animals among the trees or at a certain distance.
Is it necessary to bring a flashlight for the night walk in Tambopata?
Yes, it is advisable to bring a small flashlight or headlamp so you can move more comfortably along the trails after dark.
A headlamp is especially practical because it keeps your hands free while you walk and observe nocturnal wildlife with your guide.
Is it advisable to wear sandals during the trekking and night walk in Tambopata?
It is not the best option. During this day, you will walk along jungle trails both during the day and at night, so closed toe, comfortable footwear with good grip will be a better choice for the hikes.

It helps avoid the intense heat that begins after 10:00 AM, especially during the rowing boat portion of the excursion.
6:00 a.m. - Start of the 3 km Trek
We will begin a 3 km walk through the forest until we reach the majestic Lake Sandoval. Along the way, we may see squirrel monkeys, howler monkeys, blue and yellow macaws, birds, and tropical butterflies.
Once at the lake, we will board a quiet rowing boat to explore this body of water surrounded by pristine jungle, home to black caimans and giant river otters, an endangered species. This experience lasts around 5 hours, with a stop along the shore to enjoy a snack surrounded by nature.
7:00 a.m. - Arrival at Lake Sandoval
We will arrive at the impressive Lake Sandoval, surrounded by lush Amazon rainforest.
Here, we will board a rowing boat to quietly navigate its waters and enjoy the scenery while searching for wildlife such as monkeys, tropical birds, caimans, and, with a little luck, giant river otters.
During the excursion, we will have time to observe nature, take photographs, and enjoy the tranquility of the lake before beginning our return through the forest.
11:00 a.m. - Start of the 3 km Walk Back

Afterwards, you will have free time to freshen up, relax in the common areas, or rest in your bungalow before continuing with the afternoon activities.
4:00 p.m. - Sunset Cruise on the Madre de Dios River
In the afternoon, we will enjoy a sunset cruise along the Madre de Dios River.
During the journey, we may observe turtles, monkeys, herons, and riverside birds.
At a special moment, we will turn off the boat engine and let the current gently carry us while we watch the sunset over the river.
During the dry season, from July to October, we will stop at a natural beach where you can feel the sand and even enjoy a refreshing swim.
5:30 p.m. - Return to the Lodge
We will return to the lodge to rest and enjoy some free time before dinner.

Travel Expert Recommendations
Is it necessary to bring a hat and insect repellent for the Tambopata Tour?
Yes. A hat or cap will help protect you from the sun during boat rides and outdoor activities.
It is also advisable to bring insect repellent, sunscreen, and sunglasses so you are better prepared for the excursions.
How can I protect my camera and phone from humidity in Tambopata?
Bring a waterproof bag or protective case inside your backpack. Humidity is constant in the Amazon, and unexpected rain can occur, so protecting your devices before starting the excursion is a good precaution.
Is it advisable to make noise to try to attract animals at Lake Sandoval?
No. Loud noises can disturb wildlife and reduce your chances of seeing animals. During the rowing boat ride, enjoy the silence and let your guide help you spot animals among the vegetation.

What Does a 5 Day 4 Night Tambopata Tour from Puerto Maldonado Include?
The 5 Day 4 Night Tambopata Tour from Puerto Maldonado combines accommodation at an Amazon lodge, navigation along the Madre de Dios River, jungle hikes, canopy activities, Lake Sandoval, nighttime experiences, and a cultural visit to an Ese Eja community.
The Get In Peru program begins with pickup from the airport, bus terminal, or your hotel in Puerto Maldonado and ends on the fifth day with the return boat ride and transfer according to your departure schedule.
💡 Get In Peru Tip: Choose a five day program if you want to alternate between nature, wildlife, and Amazonian culture without concentrating all the activities into overly short days.
🌿 Did you know…? The Tambopata National Reserve protects 274,690 hectares of rainforest in Madre de Dios and includes ecosystems such as riverine forests, palm swamps, Brazil nut forests, clay licks, and Amazonian lakes.
What Is the Itinerary Like for the 5 Day 4 Night Tambopata Tour?
The 5 Day 4 Night Tambopata Tour begins with a boat ride to the lodge and an introductory jungle walk. The second day is dedicated to the ecological reserve, observation tower, and canopy activities; the third combines Lake Sandoval and a sunset cruise; and the fourth adds an experience with the Ese-Eja community and a night cruise on the Madre de Dios River.
On the fifth day, you will return by boat to Puerto Maldonado before your transfer to the airport or bus terminal.
💡 Get In Peru Tip: Do not schedule your departure flight too early on the fifth day; the expected return to Puerto Maldonado is approximately 9:30 AM, and river operations may depend on current conditions.
🛶 Did you know…? Much of the Tambopata experience takes place around its rivers: SERNANP indicates that reaching the Sandoval sector first involves river transportation followed by a walk through the jungle.
What Is the Difference Between Tambopata 4 Days 3 Nights and Tambopata 5 Days 4 Nights?
The main difference is that the 5 Day 4 Night Tambopata Tour adds an extra day of cultural and nighttime experiences, including a visit to an Ese-Eja community and a night cruise on the Madre de Dios River.
Both programs may include experiences such as Lake Sandoval, jungle activities, canopy walks, and river navigation, but the five day itinerary allows you to add more activities without removing the main nature experiences from the first few days.
💡 Get In Peru Tip: If your main interest is simply visiting Lake Sandoval and doing a few jungle activities, four days may be enough; if you also want to include a cultural component and another nighttime experience, consider five days.
🌙 Did you know…? In our five-day program, you experience the Madre de Dios River at different times: at sunset on Day 3 and at night on Day 4, offering two different perspectives of the Amazonian environment.
Is Lake Sandoval Worth Visiting During a 5 Day Tour?
Yes, Lake Sandoval is one of the main attractions of a trip to Tambopata, especially for travelers interested in Amazonian landscapes, boat rides, and wildlife observation.
To reach it, you will take an approximately 3 km walk after the river journey, and the visit allows you to explore a lake ecosystem surrounded by Amazon rainforest. SERNANP identifies it as one of the main tourist destinations in the Peruvian Amazon.
💡 Get In Peru Tip: Prepare insect repellent, water, comfortable footwear, and sun protection the night before, as the excursion starts very early and requires walking both on the way in and on the way out.
🦦 Did you know…? Lake Sandoval covers approximately 127 hectares and is home to a population of giant river otters; monkeys, capybaras, macaws, and other wildlife species can also be observed in the surrounding area.
What Animals Can You See During 5 Days in Tambopata?
During a 5 Day 4 Night Tambopata Tour, there is a chance to see monkeys, macaws, toucans, capybaras, caimans, reptiles, amphibians, and numerous bird species, among other wildlife.
Sightings are never guaranteed because these are wild animals in their natural habitat, but combining daytime hikes, Lake Sandoval, river navigation, and nighttime activities allows you to explore different moments and environments of the jungle.
💡 Get In Peru Tip: Speak quietly during the excursions and pay attention to your guide; in the Amazon, it is common to detect a sound or movement before actually spotting the animal.
🐒 Did you know…? SERNANP records around 600 bird species, 169 mammals, 103 amphibians, and 103 reptiles in the Tambopata National Reserve.
What Is the Visit to the Ese-Eja Community in Tambopata Like?
The visit offers an opportunity to learn about aspects of the history, traditions, handicrafts, and relationship with the forest of the Ese-Eja people through a scheduled encounter included in the itinerary.
On the Get In Peru tour, this experience takes place on the fourth day and complements the previous days, which are mainly focused on nature and wildlife.
💡 Get In Peru Tip: Approach this experience with respect and curiosity, ask before taking photos of people, and remember that you are visiting a living culture, not a representation created solely for tourists.
🧑🤝🧑 Did you know…? The Ese-Eja traditionally inhabit the basins of the Madre de Dios and Beni rivers between Peru and Bolivia, and their language belongs to the Tacanan language family. Peru’s Ministry of Culture recognizes the Ese-Eja as an Indigenous or native people of Peru.
What Clothes and What to Bring to Tambopata for 5 Days and 4 Nights?
For Tambopata 5 Days and 4 Nights, it is advisable to bring lightweight long sleeved clothing, comfortable pants, walking shoes, a rain jacket or poncho, insect repellent, sunscreen, a hat, a reusable water bottle, and a small backpack for excursions.
It is also useful to protect your phone, camera, and other devices from humidity and to bring a flashlight for activities after dark.
💡 Get In Peru Tip: Do not fill your backpack with heavy clothing; prioritize lightweight garments that dry quickly and wear long pants and long sleeves during hikes to reduce exposure to insects and vegetation.
🎒 Did you know…? Relative humidity in Tambopata can range between 80% and 100%, while SERNANP records an average annual temperature of around 26°C.
What Is a Night Cruise on the Madre de Dios River Like?
A night cruise on the Madre de Dios River allows you to navigate after dark and experience the sounds, scenery, and nighttime activity of the Amazon from the water.
In the Get In Peru program, this activity takes place on the fourth day after the cultural visit and afternoon free time, creating a different experience from the sunset cruise enjoyed the previous day.
💡 Get In Peru Tip: Bring insect repellent and a lightweight long-sleeved garment, and avoid continuously using flash or strong lights while your guide is searching for wildlife.
🐊 Did you know…? During Get In Peru’s night cruise, the guide looks for possible sightings of caimans along the riverbanks and other animals that are active at night; as with all wildlife, sightings cannot be guaranteed.
